LIVING LIFE UNFRIED®

“Oksana's Story”

I'm Oksana, and I am delighted to share with you how beautifully Koo Koo Roo's healthy and delicious meals fit my very busy life as a pianist and composer.

I live in Los Angeles, but my music and performances take me around the world. Because I am passionate about my music and sharing that beauty with others, maintaining a high, consistent energy level during a long day is very important. A typical day includes writing my original works at 7 AM, then teaching students at my School of Music until I head off to perform in the afternoon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Then more piano students follow in my studio. My evening ends with a performance nightly at the Hilton Universal.

Doing what I love and eating correctly enables me to maintain my very full schedule and still feel energized at 11 PM. I eat at Koo Koo Roo because everything is delicious and health-conscious. It is very easy to drop by for a quick meal on the way to a performance, knowing the integrity of their menu. I just love the idea of, "Life Unfried ®"! My favorite is their roasted bone-in skinless original chicken. Then I can mix and match my steamed vegetables.

I believe spreading the word about Koo Koo Roo means more people will make a simple and affordable step to a "Better For YouSM" choice. I would love for everyone to experience feeling well and enjoy the beauty around us. It's really as the gang at Koo Koo Roo says, "Life is delicious here...take a bite". I have to agree. It is music to my taste buds!

I am so pleased to offer some of my beautiful music here. With your purchase of my CDs at Koo Koo Roo, I will donate 50% of the proceeds to my favorite environmental non-profit, Cool Green, and their Cool Green Fashion For Forests global initiatives.

Best wishes and be sure to "Live Laugh and Cluck" today!

“My Journey” by Sheree Pouls

My name is Sheree Pouls and this is my story about my lifelong journey towards health and fitness and how eating KooKooRoo changed my life!

From the time I can remember I was overweight. The story goes that when I was an infant I almost died. After going through such a traumatic experience, my mother hated for me to cry and she found feeding me stopped my tears. This pacification with food created a pattern of associating using food to make me feel good. In essence, I, like many other overweight people, ate for reasons other than nutrition. The teenage and early adult years are difficult enough at a normal weight but imagine being 15 years old and tipping the scales at 200 lbs. Couple that with being the only child out of 5 that had a serious weight issue. Of course I tried every diet plan in the book but would lose weight then gain it all back in a continuous cycle of deprivation and binging. It became a downward spiral of hope and disappointment. This technique obviously wasn’t working. The mantra “diets don’t work” began to clearly resonate within me. I was searching for something that I could do that would not only help me lose weight, but would also give me the tools needed to keep the weight off and become a healthier person in mind, body, and spirit. Something inside of me always knew that it was not my destiny to be an unhappy, unhealthy person. I needed to make what I call “a small shift in perception”- a mind, body connection if you will. I’ve learned that I cannot make lasting and significant changes in my life without this internal and external agreement.

My mid 20’s became the turning point. I began an exercise program while simultaneously learning of a fairly new, healthy, and affordable restaurant in my area called KooKooRoo Chicken Bistro. I remember stumbling over the name a few times before it registered. How fantastic it was to have found a local spot where one could order healthy, yummy rotisserie style chicken along with various side dishes such as steamed veggies, black beans, green beans and, among others, everyone’s favorite the famous “butternut squash! – AKA ross squash”. I never knew chicken could taste so great but at the same time be so healthy. I quickly became a regular, eating my chicken and sides at least 3 to 4 times per week. Not only did it taste great, but it also satisfied my hunger and it felt good to put something in my body every day that I knew was working FOR me instead of against me. I began to make that “small shift in perception”, that “mind, body connection”. My intention became more about being healthy and really living my life then about “stuffing” my feelings down and being fearful of life! I started to understand the importance of balance as opposed to deprivation. KooKooRoo made this transition so much easier because I never had to think about what to eat. The convenience of portion control, flavor, nutrition and, most importantly, eating “real food”, as opposed to pre-packaged, chemically induced “so called food” worked in an enormously positive way and provided me with the tools I needed to sustain a healthy way of living. By learning to balance my nutrition and not deprive myself, I also learned how to balance other areas of my life better. In large part, this is what KooKooRoo offers, and I never get tired of eating it!

It’s funny, I recently took a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and indulged a bit on the fabulous Mexican cuisine. However, I remember saying “I miss my KooKooRoo!” The Koo Koo Roo menu has grown and changed a lot since back then. They now offer various healthy salads and sandwiches among other wonderful dishes, but I am still a sucker for the “original rotisserie chicken”. It’s hard to believe, but once upon a time I weighed 230 lbs. I embrace that young girl and the journey that brought her to the healthy and vibrant woman I have become today. My road will always surprise me with twists and turns, but I know that as long as I am honoring myself I will rise to the challenges of life. KooKooRoo was, is and I know will continue to help sustain me on this journey of healthy eating and living!
